Subject: Migrating ducks arriving at Cheat Lake--13 species
After the rain stopped this afternoon, I spent a couple of hours late in
the afternoon checking out Cheat Lake. I was surprised to find 13 species.

South of I-68 bridge:

Canada Goose--2
Redhead--1 drake
Scaup species--10. Distance, mist, and tucked-in heads made identification
to species difficult at all locations. I did see a few of both Greater and
Lesser Scaup, but the vast majority could not be identified.
Ruddy Duck--3 drakes

North of I-68 bridge:

Scaup species--110
Common Merganser--2
Red-breasted Merganser--1 drake

Lakeview Golf Course:

Canada Goose--20

Cheat Lake Park:

Wood Duck--2
Green-winged Teal--9
Ring-necked Duck--6
Scaup species--130
Common Goldeneye--1 drake
Hooded Merganser--3
Red-breasted Merganser--6 drakes
Horned Grebe--9
Ring-billed Gull--27 migrating northward

With a rainy weekend forecast for the Morgantown area, it could be
interesting to see what shows up.
