Hi Cynthia,

I've been doing nestboxes for years, and I would suggest REMOVING everything you can from the inside of a box. Primarily, insects like blowflies might breed and accumulate in any vegetation.

Why take a chance?

Subject: Nesting box question

Last fall, after cleaning out all our nest boxes, I put a bit of dry hay/ grass in each box, as suggested in BirdersDigest. Now I'm wondering if I should remove that material before nesting season begins? Any ideas?
Thanks,
