It’s normal. My downies and red-bellies all seem to use particular cracks in nearby trees and the deck railing for opening sunflower seeds.

He takes the sunflower seeds and flies to a tree where he appears to be putting them in a crotch or crack. He also goes to the ground for seeds. We noticed Downey's and Hairy's doing the same to the same crack. We have never seen this behavior before and was wondering if this s normal. Thanks for any info.
