On Feb 11, around 3 - 4 pm, two of us observed a large, mostly mottled white hawk in the top of a lone fir. This was in the Lorane Valley across from King Estate Winery (Springhill Ranch parcel) on a eastward driveway. When it flew, the red tail showed plainly! Otherwise it was a “mystery” hawk. The head had side muddy color but with a white pate. Wings were blotchy white with black bars and wingtips. The red tail was the defining feature. Overall, it looked like a “white-ish” large hawk.
