I definitely remember you - not sure we ever met in person (maybe north shore Christmas counts a couple times?) but my father talked a lot about you flying him places - especially the ivory gull - the bird that started me birding even though we didn't actually find it at Montrose that day! Thank you for sharing the birding memories with me - I wish I'd somehow recorded or written down everything he told me about all the various birding trips (near and far) so I appreciate hearing some of it now.

I too had the great pleasure of birding and going on birding trips with your dad. I have a great memory of my flying Dave and a few good friends to Iowa to see an Ivory Gull. In Ghana we shared looks at a spectacular White-necked Rockfowl. Great memories and a great guy.
Jackie joins me in sending our deep condolences.

Rachel,Thanks for posting. I had the pleasure of birding with your father at LaBagh Woods, doing bird counts in the 1990s. A wonderful man who was patient with less-experienced birders.Peace to his memory,

For those of you who have been around a while, I wanted to let you know that my father, David Brenner, died last night at age 88 after a few years of declining health. Until about 5 years ago, he was aware of every "good" bird seen in the Chicago area and I know a lot of you have crossed paths with him. There will probably be no service, but some kind of memorial will be planned later.
If the attached photos work, one is of him in India in 1993 and the other is his life list tally in the front of his world checklist - 5242 (unless something has been split or lumped since he last updated it)
