Birders near and far,
A reminder that time is rushing toward the 27th, that monumental day, the pinnacle of winter birding, aka The Superbowl of Birding XV--More important than that contest a week later where hypertrophic men pummel each other into submission, this is a contest of skill, strategy, lightning reflexes, and as little contact as possible. Time to flex your birding muscles, polish up your optics, and test your mettle against birders in northeast Mass and southeast New Hampshire. Will a New Hampshire team again scoop up the coveted Zeiss Joppa Cup, or will a Massachusetts team regain glory for the Bay State? Will last year's winning team captain score with her NH team, or will she assemble another team now that she has moved to Mass?
What hotshot youth teams will be in the field this year? Note the changes to the rules for the Fledgling and NewBies Awards!
Finally, after years of no entries in the Sitting Duck Award category, it has gone off to pasture. This year the new Townie Award will recognize the team recording the greatest number of species within one municipality (town or city).
But whether you are on a youth team, diehard twitchers, or just out for fun, you are going to have a great time. For details, see www.massaudubon.org/superbowl/. You can register using the form on the website or by calling Joppa Flats at 978-462-9998.
