Headed out to Brownsmead today while we had a chance. Very rainy and windy, flooded everywhere. No waterthrush or gyrfalcon, as we assumed from the weather, but we did find a pile of PEEPS out on Bug Hole Rd. BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER were in abundance, as well as at least 2 other shorebird species, possibly sandpipers. We are not great at identifying peeps and don't have a spotting scope, so we just didn't feel comfortable calling them anything other than peeps.
Other notable birds included 10 or more BALD EAGLES in various stages of maturity.
We also stopped at Svensen Island, and the flooded stage of tide and time of year made for large numbers of TUNDRA SWANS, SNOW GEESE, CANVASBACK, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and other usual ducks.
