Had a good birding morning in Bluestone S.P. with lots of individuals and 32 species. Most of the songbirds were hitting the poison ivy berries except for a hermit thrush feeding in the top of a sumac. Highlight was the call of a Sandhill Crane as it flew over. Jim & Bev Triplett had this species flying over nearby Bluestone Dam during our 13th winter eagle survey over the weekend. Participants in the eagle survey visited sites along Indian Creek, Bluestone, Greenbrier & New Rivers and located 50 bald eagles and 2 golden eagles. Some observers were treated to the sight of 2 bobcats feeding on a deer carcass and one saw a river otter catch a fish and eat it. Jim Phillips Summers County Pipestem, WV
