Subject: SC's Lake Wateree CBC - Long-tailed Ducks
Carolina Birders,

The Lake Wateree CBC (Kershaw & Fairfield Counties in SC) was conducted yesterday, 5 January 2018.

Two female Long-tailed Ducks, that were found about a week earlier by Steve Patterson, continue to be seen. They are mostly seen from Buck Hill Landing, just behind the dam. Yesterday morning, they were 100+ yards up the lake from the landing. This was a new species for the count.

There were also 3 female Canvasbacks at the dam yesterday morning and 2 male Redheads were also seen on the count. One Redhead was found by Bob & Rachel Wood, at Dutchman Creek and I had a second male at the dam. Both of these species, were also new to the count.

Other waterfowl on the lake included, Canada Goose, Mallard, Wood Duck, Green-winged Teal, Ring-necked Duck, Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, Hooded Merganser, Red-breasted Merganser & Ruddy Duck.

Good Birding,

Lex Glover
