Subject: Interesting Shrike Observation
This morning as I stepped onto the Fourteen Mile Creek Trail in Lexington, SC, a drift of falling feathers caught my attention. Looking around I spotted a Loggerhead Shrike and was surprised to see that it was eating a male Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Shrikes regularly eat small songbirds during the winter months but I've only witnessed this a few times personally. It must be hard enough as is for kinglets to survive these cold temperatures!
