Date: 1/3/18 8:19 am From: Terry Bronson <tbronsonbirds...> Subject: Iceland and maybe Glaucous Gulls, White-winged Scoter in Hancock County
At upstream side of New Cumberland Lock and Dam on Ohio River. QUALIFIER: The birds are in a small patch of open water adjacent to the lock and may be in Ohio.
2 first-year white-winged gulls; 1 near Ring-billed size, the other slightly larger, but I don't think large enough to call it a Glaucous. Scoter a male.
Also 3 Bald Eagles, 35 Common Mergansers, 6 Common Goldeneyes, 5 Gadwalls, 1 Bufflehead, 1 Mute Swan, 1 American Coot, 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 8 Herring Gulls, and 12 Ring-billed Gulls. About 125 Canada Geese flying back and forth.
Earlier at Pike Island Dam only 1 Herring Gull visible in heavy mist below dam.
