Date: 1/2/18 1:14 pm From: Dennis Serdehely <birders...> Subject: Pyramid Lake CBC Summary
Yesterday, on a beautiful, sunny and calm day, 9 birders tallied 3338 individual birds of 69 species plus one exotic. Highlights include an immature Harris's Sparrow found by Dennis and Becca Serdehely and Four Greater Yellowlegs, 2 found by Dennis Ghiglieri, Rose Strickland and Nancy Hoffman and 2 found by Dave McNinch and Jeff Bleam. Also of interest were 2 African Collared-Doves among the many Eurasian Collared-Doves at the Sutcliffe Trailer Park.
The Harris's Sparrow was only the second record for the count. It was seen in a flock of White-crowned Sparrows in the vicinity of the Dunn Fish Hatchery. Two of the Greater Yellowlegs were at the river mouth and two were on a small pond in the Howard Bay/Dago Bay Area. The roads to Howard Bay and Dago Bay are currently closed to the public.
I would also like to thank Karen Havlena and Elisabeth Ammon for finding the only Great Horned Owl and Red-breasted Sapsucker of the day. Both were seen at the Sutcliffe Trailer Park. Thanks also to the Pyramid Lake Piute Tribe for waiving day use fees to all the participants and for alloing entrance to Howard Bay and Dago Bay.
