Subject: [MBBIRDS] Moss Landing CBC: Preliminary Results
A beautiful day weather-wise on New Year's Day yielded a tentative total of
193 species for the ML CBC. Birds that were reported which aren't on the
master list included:

Tundra Swan: seen on one of the marshes in the Kirby Park area

Common Merganser: seen at the Elkhorn Slough Reserve

Cattle Egret: which, I believe, was seen at the Moonglow Dairy

Cassin's Auklet: seen by the pelagic boat party in both Santa Cruz and
Monterey counties

Black-legged Kittiwake: seen at the Pajaro River mouth

Kingbird, sp. : seen between Doering Lane and Littleway Lane (side streets
off Green Valley Road near the Pinto Lake County Park)

Nashville Warbler: seen on the Packard Ranch bordering Elkhorn Slough

We would like to extend a special thank-you to Joe Mancino for taking the
Slough Safari boat up Elkhorn Slough and to Jim Chrismann for taking his
boat offshore to look for pelagic species. And another round of thanks to
all the participants who took part in this year's count. Finally, the
biggest round of praise goes to Ricky Warriner for hosting the countdown
dinner. Ricky's daughter noted that Ricky has just celebrated her 90th
birthday, which means she's spent almost half of her New Year's Days
providing food and beverages for us folks who prefer birds over football
games. THANK YOU, Ricky!
