A Fox sparrow (sooty) seems to be fairly regularly on Caminito Valverde in La Jolla, between Velasco and Marzella, early to mid morning. I saw it three times this morning, each time it foraged for 5 to 10 mins only going back in the bushes when a car drove by. It has been foraging in pine needles on the ground at the edge of coastal scrub, in an area approx 5-15 feet from the road. The area is shaded in the morning, making it harder to spot. There was also a hermit thrush and California thrasher foraging nearby.
