The San Diego Field Ornithologist New Year's Day pelagic was rather quiet
overall, but had a few interesting birds.

The best bird was likely the LAUGHING GULL seen just outside the kelp bed
off Sunset Cliffs.

Also one or two MEW GULLS. One seen on the way out of the S.D. Bay channel
in the morning and that bird or another

off the sewage treatment place on the way back in the afternoon.

Four or perhaps five BROWN BOOBY. One very close to the entrance to San
Diego Bay other out at about 3 miles. Two males,

one with an odd looking white face around the bill, as opposed to the more
typical white frosted head and neck of the other.

All Brown Boobies were adults.
