Subject: [Va-bird] Common Merganser, Lake Whitehurst, Norfolk, VA
Yesterday, while covering the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, and surrounding areas, for the Little Creek CBC, I saw an adult male Common Merganser on the northwest side of the gardens. The bird swam around the north side of the gardens and disappeared from view.

Also, the pond at the former site of the Lake Wright Golf Course, which has become Norfolk Prime Outlets, held a decent diversity of waterfowl, including Green-winged Teal, Wood Duck, Ring-necked Duck, Northern Shoveler, and Gadwall. There still seems to be construction occurring around the pond, and, unfortunately, much of the understory vegetation has been cleared.
