Yesterday spent a few hours walking around the levees and trails of the LGSD. I started mid morning at the ballfield at the entrance to McInnis Park, then from the golf club parking lot walked out along the trail east toward the bay looped north and around to the sewage plant, took the north trail around the ponds to the border of Hamilton Wetlands and back along the south edge of the ponds. The tracker on the eBird app gave a final distance of 13.5 km although some of that involved back tracking on the levee out to Hamilton Wetlands. Complete list here:

Some highlights from the list:

Cackling Geese (Aleutian) - 14, among the 300+ Canadas on Pond 1

Lesser Scaup - pond 3

Common Merganser - 17 pond 2 and 3

Hooded Merganser - on channel off trail out from McInnis Park

Common Goldeneye - 2 with Hooded Merg.

White-tailed Kite - 10+, 7 in view simultaneously at dusk in weedy fields with

(2) Short-eared Owls south of the Pond 2/Solar panels

White-throated Swift - 14+, with swallow flock throughout the day

Barn Swallow - 2

Violet-Green Swallow - 24

Blue-gray Gnatcatcher- 1 with Sparrow flock in weedy fields south of Las Gallinas ponds

American Pipit - big flock of 150+ birds in the fields north of the ponds -1 bird captured and eaten on the ground by a Merlin

White-crowned Sparrow (Gambel's ssp) - 15+ flock in weedy fields south of ponds
