Greetings all.

This morning I headed out to bird at a few spots in Fluvanna near where I
live.

The greater white-fronted goose is still at the big pond at the Lake
Monticello golf course, and the woods near there produced a red-headed
woodpecker that gave close views, and a red-shouldered hawk that was
equally as obliging.

The Sycamore Landing Pond contained 4 hooded mergansers and 16+
buffleheads, the latter being a nice number for a very small pond like that.

Pleasant Grove Park was rather devoid of passerines this morning, although
I still got close views of a hermit thrush.

Beach 3 in Lake Monticello offered distant views of a common loon and a
coot, and the marina offered distant views of a tundra swan, the
neighborhood's first sighting.

has some photos of many of these birds. If anyone can't access the photos,
please tell me in a follow-up email.

Great birding,

Shea
