Date: 12/20/17 8:55 pm From: <jmeredit...> Subject: [COBOL] Ecas Wednesday, 2 birds, BEWICK'S WREN, COMMON REDPOLL on Madras CBC
Two birds from today brought the "year list" for Wednesdays to 257, a bit higher than the end of the year last year.
Madras CBC team of Mary Ann Kruse, Steve Dyer and Jim Moodie did half of the Deschutes river trail walk with Bewick's Wren and Barn Swallow seen along the Deschutes near Mecca Flats. Pam and Chris Scranton and Dan O'Brien, who had a Black-capped Chickadee near the trailhead, walked the other half, to all meet in the middle. Count compilers and those teams may post details about locations etc. or check ebird for maps.
Bob Sizoo, on my team with Diane Burgess, spotted "some light small birds" flying past the vehicle so we turned back for them. His birds turned out to be 3 Common Redpoll with 3 dozen or so American Goldfinch. Location was about .6 or .7 mile from Gateway heading toward Trout Creek Campground. Habitat is cat tails and teasel, not the spot with a frozen pond, next one to the north. Search fields on both sides of paved road and the small junipers. They were using vegetation on both sides of the road.
Madras CBC is promoted by ECAS Wednesday birding but compilers Sherrie Pierce and Mike Golden organized and will report on the count. Next week Wednesday Birding will go to Tygh Valley but contact the compilers first about being on a team, as Wednesday Birding only coordinates carpooling to the CBC.
