As many know, but some may be interested to learn, the corrected American Birding Association (ABA) Checklist Version 8.0.1 – November 2017 is now out and available!
Notes from the site:
The ABA Checklist includes ABA-area breeding species, regular visitors, and casual and accidental species from other regions that are believed to have strayed here without direct human aid, and well-established introduced species that are now part of our avifauna. Species Total: 1103
In version 8.0 there are 105 species added due last year’s inclusion of Hawaii in the ABA Area–33 of which are ABA rarity code 6. Also added are 4 vagrants accepted by the Checklist Committee: Common Shelduck, Amethyst-throated Hummingbird, Pine Flycatcher, and Cuban Vireo, as well as one added (Cassia Crossbill) and one subtracted (Thayer’s Gull) based on AOS taxonomic decisions. This results in a total number species on the checklist of 1103*.
* Version 8.0.1 corrects some typos, formatting errors, and an omission. If you downloaded V8, please re-download this latest version.
The ABA checklist updates are based on the annual taxonomic decisions of the North American Classification Committee (NACC) of the American Ornithological Society (AOS). The AOS was formed recently by the merger of the American Ornithologists' Union and the Cooper Ornithological Society.
