Hi birders: Some mid afternoon birding at the Rio Rico golf course produced some interesting birds, as local birder, Charlie Trapani, and I had a look around.
At that time of day most of the action seemed to center on the ponds. In the pond near the clubhouse, a handsome Cinammon Teal was a highlight. At the further pond by the 17th hole, Black crowned Night Heron, Sora, and Green Heron were observed. Vermillion Flycatcher seemed to be everywhere, a Song Sparrow was clearly seen at that pond, and Say's Phoebe were around, as well as Audubon's Warbler.
As the air cooled and the vultures began to settle, one of the two Crested Caracaras reported was seen feeding on the ground not too far from the clubhouse. The Red Crossbills seem to have gone.
Heading back to Green Valley a couple of Harris' Hawks were observed around the busy intersection of Highway 19 and Continental Road. Cheers, Thor
