Viewed two of three waterholes and found:
2 Neotropic Cormorants
3 Hooded Mergansers in the 7th hole pond
4 American Wigeon
around 70-80 Northern Shovelers
30 Ruddy Ducks
4 Mallards
1 hen Northern Pintail
around 60 American Coots which is four to six times fewer than past years.
4 Pied-billed Grebes
10 Black-crowned Night-herons is a high for the fall, all at the 9th hole pond. The water level has dropped about a foot recently. Perhaps the reduced wet area of the reed beds moved them into the open.

One of the cormorants circled overhead presenting its underside to the low sun, which appeared golden.
Land bird diversity is not very high in the late afternoon, but 3 Gila Woodpeckers on the same utility pole was interesting to me.
