White-winged Scoter 1 adult female, continuing
LONG-TAILED DUCK 3 Continuing birds, found and photographed yesterday by Jim Sullivan. 1 adult male, in transitional plumage. No long tail feathers, no gray around eye. But silvery gray scapulars resting on black back. Crown mostly white with some gray. Bill dull orange with black outline. White chin and throat, black breast. Black patch on upper neck. Photo to upload. 1 adult female, winter plumage. darker than male because of black crown. Dark gray bill. Photo to upload. A second female or immature was browner than the first. -- Birds were in pond on east side of road, initially not visible because near shore. Dove often and moved around the pond, one of the two females (or immature) vanishing much of the time; dives averaged about 1 minute underwater.
