Subject: [NBB] San Francisco Bay herring spawning events
Hi folks,

Pacific herring will soon be spawning in San Francisco Bay. If you see what you think or know might be a herring spawning event, please post to this listserv to let this community know! Even small spawning events usually attract a feeding frenzy of waterbirds feasting on the fish and eggs. Spawns tend to occur from November through March on the Marin shoreline from the Golden Gate Bridge through China Camp; Richardon's Bay; Point Richmond; San Francisco and South San Francisco Waterfront; and sometimes the Alameda and Oakland shorelines. The first birds that arrive are usually brown pelicans, grebes and gulls. Then ducks and shorebirds arrive to feed on the eggs.

Thank you!
