Observation start time: 09:00:00 Observation end time: 14:00:00 Total observation time: 5 hours
Official Counter: Vic Laubach
Observers: Diane Lepkowski, William Leigh
Weather: Overcast all day. Light NW breeze early switching to SE at noon. 7-10.7C. Good visibility.
Raptor Observations: Two Bald Eagles: 10:01 adult, 12:30 2nd-YR. An immature Golden Eagle was spotted nearly 4 miles out to our NE, and we proceeded to watch with our scopes as it slowly made its way toward us, sometimes dropping below eye level. At a distance the white base of tail and white spots on the underside of wings were apparent, but it often looked like it had a white head! As it got close and flying directly toward us we could then see that it had a bright, golden nape that really stood out quite brightly. Eventually it flew in close and right over the Inn and down the SE side of the mountain.
Non-raptor Observations: Orange-crowned Warbler, DC Cormorant, Wood Duck, Ring-billed Gull, 3 Raven, 235 Robin, 108 Waxwing, 54 Red-winged Blackbird, 11 Rusty Blackbird ======================================================================== Report submitted by Vic Laubach (<laubach...>) Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.rockfishgaphawkwatch.org
