Observation start time: 09:00:00 Observation end time: 15:45:00 Total observation time: 6.75 hours
Official Counter: Ken Klapper
Observers: Andre Moraes, Mark Suomala
Weather: Winter weather to start - temps in the low twenties and NW wind in the teens, which made it feel like temps in the low teens. Partly to hardly cloudy all day, with winds and temps moderating a bit.
Raptor Observations: Lower than expected... Red-tails predominated. A juvenile Bald Eagle seems to have taken up residence in the area - it gradually flew further and further north this afternoon.
Non-raptor Observations: Eighteen SANDHILL CRANES flew southwest along the Contoocook River valley at 9:15am. Also seen or heard today were 85 Canada Geese, 31 Mallards, 5 Black Ducks, 13 Common Mergansers, a Hairy Woodpecker, the three usual corvid species, a Titmouse, 2 Robins, 5 Eastern Bluebirds, a male Cardinal, 6 Song Sparrows, 18 Juncos, a late CHIPPING SPARROW, 9 Goldfinch, and a House Sparrow.
Predictions: A bit warmer with light south winds. Hey... it's happened on these conditions before! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Ken Klapper (<kklapper...>) Carter Hill Observatory information may be found at: www.nhaudubon.org
