Had a flock of sandhills, approximately 30-40 individuals, very high but
audible and visible, headed SSW over central Perry County about half an
hour ago [4:00 p.m.].

> AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER 1 With a large flock of 70 killdeer, foraging and resting, preening in a soybean stubble field. Studied in scope at 150 yards or so. Plover behavior and posture (run short distance, stop, peck). Plain colored compared to killdeer; slightly taller than nearby Killdeer. Light brownish back. Dove-like head, thin black bill, large dark eye. Strong white eye line, dark crown. White throat, whitish belly and vent, broad brown wash on breast. The smallish head, slender neck, and thin bill, and strong white eye line indicated American Golden rather than Black-bellied. Plumage of underparts more consistent with adult basic than juvenile, though latter is most likely at this late date.
