Observation start time: 09:00:00 Observation end time: 15:00:00 Total observation time: 6 hours
Official Counter: Ken Klapper
Observers: Betsy Chadwick, Mike Bourgault, Paul Bourgault
Visitors: Ten. Thanks to those that spent some time at the observatory today - it certainly helped take my mind off the pain from the cold!
Weather: Partially cloudy, cold (low 30s dropping to the high 20s) and NW winds, 20-30mph, gusting to over 40mph. Wind chills bottomed out in the mid-teens. A brief flurry shower reminded us that winter is on the way.
Raptor Observations: Not much - a few Red-tails and small accipiters were brave enough to attempt some southbound migration. A few local Red-tails kited and hovered in various corners of the sky, and a local adult Bald Eagle occasionally peeked out of the valleys and then quickly drew back down.
Non-raptor Observations: Canada Geese - 148; RB Gull - 3; Am. Robin - 5; Eastern Bluebird, and a few of the common corvids.
Predictions: A smidge warmer with more moderate NW winds. There is some serious potential for late season migration! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Ken Klapper (<kklapper...>) Carter Hill Observatory information may be found at: www.nhaudubon.org
