I saw a female Black-backed Woodpecker on the Little Cherry Pond Trail at the Pondicherry NWR in Jefferson on Wednesday afternoon. It was a beautiful day outside and there were very few ducks on either pond, just a pair of common mergansers and 4 bufflehead. Good flying weather kept the migrants heading south. American robins were the most common bird and a dozen or so were feeding on winterberry holly.
