Subject: [obol] Varied Thrush numbers up at my house
In the forest 25 miles nw of downtown Portland, there
are 6 Varied Thrush under the feeder. There's typically
been one this fall until now. I wonder why it's taken 50
years for me to appreciate how well camoflaged they are
on the wintering grounds. The newly fallen needles of
Douglas-fir are a bright, light orange, just like the female
VATH. Past years' fallen needles have moldered to near
black. lpn
