This is the New Mexico Rare Bird Report for November 6, 2017 sponsored by
the New Mexico Ornithological Society. When phone numbers are given for
private property, please call before going to ask for permission. In ranch
country, do not stray off the roads. Places mentioned in the report, a
checklist of N.M. birds, and more locations on uncommon and specialty

individuals are encouraged to submit their observations to NMOS. This
includes not only records of Review List species and species potentially
new to the state, but also records of uncommon species, species of
conservation concern, records documenting breeding, and early, late, or

--Hawksworth reported a NORTHERN PARULA near the bike path along the bosque
trail near the National Hispanic Cultural Center November 6.
--Ritz reported a VERMILION FLYCATCHER at Valle de Oro NWR October 29. It
was located at the nw portion of the refuge and continued in the area to
--Zmuda photographed a HARRIS’S SPARROW in his Albuquerque backyard October
29. It continued to October 31. Contact him for more information
--Nieman reported a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK at Washington Ranch November 5.
--Dolton reported an ANNA’S HUMMINGBIRD at his Silver City home October 18.
It continued to October 25. Contact him for more information
--Rustay, Hertick, and Egalhoff reported a RUFOUS-BACKED ROBIN in the New
Mexico portion of Guadalupe Canyon October 21. It was found near the old
cistern and orchard.
--Webster and Rowlett reported a RUFOUS-WINGED SPARROW in Guadalupe Canyon
May 13. Up to seven were present in the canyon October 21 for Rustay,
Hetrick, and Egelhoff.
--Levine reported an ANHINGA at Rockwind Golf Course in Hobbs October 17.
It has been at the only large pond at the golf course. It has not been
reported since October 27. Please check in at the pro shop before going to
look for the bird.
--Lerwill photographed a RUSTY BLACKBIRD in a flooded field in Corrales
near Corrales Rd and W Alary Ln November 4.
--Oldenettel reported hearing the GREAT KISKADEE at Percha Dam Recreation
Area September 4. It heard south of the playground and continued to October
28 for many.
RIO ARRIBA County:
--NOTE: There is a $5 entrance fee to bird at Ohkay Owingeh Lakes.
--CAROLINA WRENS are currently at various locations at Bosque del Apache
NWR; recent reports have come from the Unit 17B Moist Soil Management area
and the Willow Deck.
--Hawksworth reported a singing CAROLINA WREN at the NMSU-NRCS Agricultural
Center November 6.
