I have to say, you did an excellent job of taking a photo that obscures field marks.
Costa's have shorter bills, but the tip is hidden behind a branch.
The "shingled" green and grey appearance of the flanks extends up almost to the gorget in Anna's, but again the critical area is hidden behind a branch.
The corners of the gorget are longer in adult Costa"s, but, (all together now!) are is hidden behind a branch!
The tail length does look more like Anna's.
The feathering around the eye does not look quite typical for either of them, but the angle makes it hard to assess.
If it was a Costa's you should see and hear it tomorrow, and be sure. If it was one of your Anna's you probably will never be sure.

I'm thinking now that the bird was just a hunched up Anna's; spoke too soon. There's a lot of them here. Folks can look at the photo and see what they think. The gorget looked purple when I was taking the photos, but that may have been due to poor lighting. The wings did appear to be short for a Costa's compared to tail length.
Not my first ID mistake, can't throw stones at others.
