It's that time of year! Wheeler is starting to come alive with waterfowl. First sandhills have arrived--two were working the field at the observation building yesterday. Approx 600 American white pelicans were on Flint Creek at the fishing pier, another 200 at White Springs Dike. Eighty snow geese on Limestone Bay with good numbers of pintails, wigeons, wood ducks and blue-winged and green-winged teal. Gadwall at the bay, White Springs and Dinsmore Slough. Caught a brief glimpse of what was almost certainly an immature bald eagle flying away over the tree line at White Springs. Can the whooping cranes be far behind?
