Subject: Whooping Cranes - Cheyenne Bottoms
Kansas Wildlife, Parks and Tourism employees have scouted the area and have reported 17 Whooping Cranes in the refuge. The public does not have access to the refuge so spotting them will be very difficult. The 5 reported by Rob Penner in Pool 2 have not been spotted again, but visibility is reduced due to snow conditions. These 5 may have joined with the 17 counted in the refuge. The one spotted flying over Pool 5 earlier is presently in with a flock of Sandhill Cranes southwest of Pool 5 feeding in a field. We are reminding the public to be very respectful, and cautious to not disturb these beautiful protected birds.

Quivira has just reported 9 Whooping Crane on their area.
