First stopping at Pepperdine Ponds, there was a Horned Grebe and two female Buffleheads in the pond closest to Malibu Canyon Road. Afterwards a walk through the Malibu Lagoon area produced 5 Gull species (including Bonaparte's). 4 more Grebe species (including Clark's). 8-10 Snowy Plovers, a Semi-palmated Plover and the usual; Black-bellied and Kildeer. Another keen birder who I met also had a Cattle Egret and a Cackling Goose. Still no loons offshore and no other gulls, such as Glaucous-winged, Iceland (Thayer's), Mew or unexpected ones. The only terns found were Royal. A mixed flock of Willet, Whimbrel, Marbled Godwit and Sanderlings rounded out the assortment near the east end of the Lagoon.
