Good Birder Phone, and AMERICAN WIGEON and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW (Wake
County, NC)
(1) I am still recovering from minor leg surgeries, so no long walks
allowed. So I used a chair and a scope at Lake Wheeler Marshes on
Penny Road (Wake, NC), Friday morning, 10/27. Best Birds: 2 male
AMERICAN WIGEON, also MERLIN, WILSON'S SNIPE, and GADWALL
See Checklist https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__ebird.org_ebird_view_checklist_S40145621&d=DwIBaQ&c=imBPVzF25OnBgGmVOlcsiEgHoG1i6YHLR0Sj_gZ4adc&r=ymRCw6Q-sBitug_rdeO1Tokz-I_SX2LQN2_Ocvlal9U&m=TWf9Fhdps-OfU25CGMyvY-gSVjBHk1hyiZaj7A8_lU8&s=UxqbsNOADl9wR5sDLdsIDAeJ4Qeqlkzc6H7YeSf6_ig&e=

(2) I then drove to Mid Pines Rd from the Penny Rd pull off for the
Lake Wheeler marshes and drove and stopped along that gravel road .
Best Birds: immature WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, 6 AMERICAN PIPIT at 9:30,
6 HORNED LARK at 10:30, and an OSPREY. Alas, no (peregrine falcon).

(3) I am very happy with my new Android-based smartphone -- I
recommend it as a very good phone for birders. It is waterproof,
military-grade strong with VERY loud sound/speakers. And it won't fly
out of your hand like those sleek glassy phones. The brand is Kyocera
DuraForce Pro. Maybe it will last six years (like my previous
smartphone).

(4) Come join our birdwalk group at Wake Audubon.org or see our

We bird at Joyner in Wake Forest Sat 10/28 at 8 am. Birders of all
levels are welcome.
