Subject: [MASSBIRD] Waterbird fallout in western MA - part II
Hi MassBirders,

Although the weather today is much nicer than yesterday, the scoters and other waterbirds are still appearing in western MA. Today’s reports so far on Western Mass Birders, FaceBook:

10 Brant and 69 Black Scoter at Goodnough Dike on the Quabbin (Larry Therrien)

24 Black Scoter, 3 Lesser Scaup, and a Long-tailed Duck at Winsor Dam on the Quabbin (Larry again)

2 Surf Scoters at Barton Cove; 2 Bufflehead at the Turners Falls Rod & Gun Club (Peter Gagarin)

35 Black Scoter and a Red-necked Grebe on Onota Lake (Rene Wendell)

Gadwall, 2 Pied-billed Grebes, 30-40 Black Scoters on Cheshire Lake; a similar number of Black Scoters on Lake Pontoosuc (Gael Hurley)

Interesting that White-winged Scoter was the most numerous and widely reported species (and only scoter) in the rain yesterday, but post-rain today, Black Scoters are predominant and nobody is reporting White-winged…

Good birding,

Josh
