Subject: [NHBirds] Scoters on Cherry Pond in Jefferson
There were 63 Black Scoters, 6 Surf Scoters, 9 Wood Ducks, 2 Pied-billed Grebes and about 30 Ring-necked Ducks on Cherry Pond in Jefferson on Thursday 12 October 2017 at noon. The black scoters were their usual restless selves that would be in a raft then all take off and circle the pond a few times and then set back down. And raft up. When they flew close by you could hear what sounded like sleigh bells overhead. The surf scoters were calmer and just rested on the pond. The other interesting thing about the black scoters today was that only two were female and the rest were male.
