Subject: Lincoln's Sparrow; Long-eared Owl (Tucker)
Hi, all,

Yesterday evening a Long-eared Owl was calling outside my house.

I took advantage of an extended power outage yesterday to see what I could
find in the neighborhood, and wasn't disappointed. Highlights included a
singing Lincoln's Sparrow at the Freeland boardwalk of Canaan Valley NWR,
killer looks at another Lincoln's Sparrow at Canaan Valley State Park, and
an Eastern Phoebe learning to sing nearby.

Here are the birds I found within three miles of home:

Canada Goose

Wood Duck

Mallard

Mourning Dove

Great Blue Heron

Turkey Vulture

Red-bellied Woodpecker

Downy Woodpecker

Hairy Woodpecker

Northern Flicker

American Kestrel

Eastern Phoebe

Blue-headed Vireo

Blue Jay

American Crow

Common Raven

Black-capped Chickadee

Tufted Titmouse

Red-breasted Nuthatch

White-breasted Nuthatch

Carolina Wren

Golden-crowned Kinglet

Ruby-crowned Kinglet

Swainson's Thrush

American Robin

American Goldfinch

Eastern Towhee

Chipping Sparrow

Field Sparrow

Lincoln's Sparrow

Song Sparrow

Swamp Sparrow

White-crowned Sparrow

Yellow-rumped Warbler

Northern Cardinal.

Good birding,

Casey Rucker
