Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 11. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
On October 5 a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was among a flock of migrant birds at
South Beach on Yaquina Bay. That day an immature YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER
was photographed along Thornton Creek near Toledo. A SOUTH POLAR SKUA was
seen October 8 inside Siletz Bay.
A major PINE SISKIN movement has arrived in Western Oregon during the week.
On October 2 a flock of nine SURF SCOTERS were on the Columbia River off
Hayden Island. Apparently the same flock was on the Willamette River in
Portland October 4. On October 11 a flock of 14 SURF SCOTERS was south of
On October 7 a CATBIRD was at Pistol River. A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen
that day at Gold Beach. On October 8 a MOCKINGBIRD was in Florence. Up to 24
LAPLAND LONGSPURS were seen during the week near the South Jetty of Yaquina
Bay. A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was at Yaquina Bay October 5. On October 10 a
HARRIS'S SPARROW was photographed at a Tillamook feeder. A flock of PALM
WARBLERS was at Fort Stevens State Park October 5. A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was
there October 8.
On October 8 two GOSHAWKS were seen flying over Northeast Portland. A
PRAIRIE FALCON was along Royal Avenue at Fern Ridge Reservoir October 7. On
October 9 a LEWIS'S WOODPECKER was there.
