Birds are the primary host for the West Nile virus, which has become
endemic throughout the U.S., so it's possible that it's the virus
rather than the treatment that affected the sparrows. WNV peaks in
JUL/AUG and could well be abundant still. It would be nice to think
that H Sparrows have become preferentially targeted due to some
mutation in the viral genome, but unlikely.
