Subject: [COBOL] Sunday on Green Ridge with a first
Hawk watchers were more comfortable than on Saturday due to the lack of
drizzle and significant winds (but it was sure cool to observe raptors
flying through Saturday morning's persistent rainbow). The majority of
birds moved through high overhead mid afternoon as they had to rely on
thermals. A first for ECAS's Green Ridge Raptor Survey occurred when Peter
observed a south bound Ferruginous Hawk in the morning. After having 11
Merlins scream past us on Saturday we didn't observe a single falcon on
Sunday. Some of us left five minutes before five but Bob W. and David B.
stuck with it to get the 3 last accipiters of the day and a pair of Golden
Eagles that couldn't be counted because they headed north ending the day
with 86 raptors.

1 Turkey Vulture
1 Osprey
6 Bald Eagle
1 Northern Harrier
27 Sharp-shinned Hawk
18 Cooper's Hawk
2 Northern Goshawk
17 Red-tailed Hawk
3 Golden Eagle
1 Ferruginous Hawk
5 Unid. Accipiter
1 Unid. Buteo (possible Broad-winged)
3 Unid. Raptor

Portland was well represented on Saturday but it was Eugene's turn on
Sunday whose participants included Peter Low, Kim Boodie,
Jake Schas, Mike Golden, Nancy & Satch Esperancilla, David Braunschweiger,
Cindy Zarlando, Cynthia Stockwell, Jrnie Thomas,
Linda Gilbert, Dan Willis, Simon Kolfer, Bob Wilkenson and Gary & Laura
