Observers: Bill Rasku, Ted Mara, Rod Chase, George Russell, John and Linda
Parker.
Visitors: along with many hikers and folks up for the
view, we were visited by the 8th grade class from Newton's Day School
(junior high). Another fine group!

Weather:
At start, 58F/14C with W wind at 5-10mph/8-16kph. Clouds
covered 95% of sky all day; Visibility 3m/5k and 5m/8k in
varying directions where there neither rain nor dense haze.
Temp rose to 60F/16 at 10am but then fell to 55F/13C by
noon. Seems like showers were pulling down cooler air from
above. At noon, wind freshened to 8-10mph; visibility poor
W & E and rain soon followed. Vis. N and S still 5mi.
Spent 45 min. at 'The Ledges' finding nothing low. Did notice the wind
shift.
Back to tower at 1pm and NW blowing 10-15mph/16-24kph and visibility NW to
NE great with sun falling on several
swaths of the landscape. Temp fell to low 55F/13C by 2pm.
Rain also returned ...

Raptor Observations:
The whole of the morning's watch had 1 low and lonely SS
in 11th hour. In between showers, the prospects of NW wind at 1pm had me
hoping. After 35 minutes a PG finally came low with flapping over near
ridges to east. Also noticed an AK in front and above. Kestrel worked hard
to gain altitude - as if having a PG way below was much better than any
alternatives. PG went S of hill and turned to the north .. and reappeared 5
minutes later riding above the north towers on the NW updraft. Streaked off
in a flash.
Two SS's at 1:55 also took advantage of the updraft and
then began a long flap-assisted glide SW.
Next and bigger rains imminent, I chose the road at 2pm+.

Non-raptor Observations:
TV 2 locals in NE haze.
Nothing else besides the Blue Jays.
2 Monarchs.

Predictions:
Saturday
Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Calm wind becoming
south around 6 mph in the afternoon.
Sunday
A chance of showers, mainly between 7am and 10am. Patchy
fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near
77. Southwest wind around 10mph, with gusts as high as 23. Chance of
precipitation is 40%.
Sat. not promising much; Sun. not promising nuthin'.
