Subject: [Ohio-birds] Conneaut, Mosquito L.
I birded at Conneaut harbor from 7:40 to 11:30 this morning.  Birds seen and heard included: wood ducks, blue-winged teal, common merganser, red-breasted mergansers,100 double-crested cormorants, bald eagles, common gallinule, Am. coot, pectoral sandpiper, greater yellowlegs, lesser yellowlegs, Bonaparte's gulls, great black-backed gull, and marsh wren.  Next I went to Ashtabula.  The trail at Walnut Beach was flooded out, so I was skunked there.  I took a look at Lake Shore Park, there were 190 double-crested cormorants there.  My last stop was at Mosquito L. in early afternoon.  The water is still too high there for shorebirds, but there were a lot of other waterbirds there.  I checked the pulloff from Hoagland-Blackstub Rd., the end of Mahan-Denman Rd., the causeway, and the State Park at the south end.  I came up with: mute swans, wood ducks, gadwalls, 150 Am. wigeon, Am. black ducks, ruddy ducks, 60 pied-billed grebes, 19 great egrets, bald eagles, 130 Am. coots, 14 sandhill cranes, and Bonaparte's gull.  Craig Holt, Lowellville, Mahoning Co.
