Subject: [ia-bird] Oct 3 at Hitchcock HawkWatch-Big Day
Intermittent showers in the morning with south winds giving way to north
winds and a gradual lifting of clouds around noon. Stayed cloudy all day but
that didn't stop the raptors from pushing though.

Turkey Vulture-374

Osprey-2

Bald Eagle-9

Northern Harrier-5

Sharp-shinned Hawk-22

Cooper's Hawk-11

Northern Goshawk-1 This one, an adult, visited the banding station first
but was driven away by an incoming redtail.

Broad-winged Hawk-20

Red-tailed Hawk-70

Swainson's Hawk-8

Merlin-2 (We saw about a dozen at the banding station)

Peregrine Falcon-18

Unidentified falcon-1

Total- 543

Hours of observation-8

The 3 days of October have been phenomenal for Turkey Vultures at the watch.
790 have been counted in 3 days.
