The post below was posted to the Plum Island Birds listserve and I thought it worthy of a share...
Noted local cinematographer and movie-maker Michael Hoel has completed a three-year project that has culminated in a 45 minute feature movie–called Little Striker– about the Least Tern. Shot entirely on Plum Island, this Ultra-High definition movie details the fascinating life story of the feisty Least Tern. It contains social behavior that has never been fully detailed before. Terns, along with many other birds such as egrets and herons, were almost exterminated during Victorian times because of the feather trade for ladies hats and this tragic history is also revealed. The movie Little Striker was very favorably reviewed by Rogue Cinema, equating the movie to "March of the Penguins" or "Winged Migration."
"Little Striker" will be presented FREE at the Salisbury Library Meeting Room on Thursday, October 26 at 6:00 p.m. Michael Hoel will give a talk about his experiences as a cinematographer and the making of this movie. After the movie there will be a question and answer period.
