Subject: [ia-bird] Iowa City birders at Grammer Grove 9-30-17
Yesterday six members of the Iowa City Bird Club joined Mark Proescholdt and
several other birders at the Grammer Grove Wildlife Area (Marshall County)
for the day's hawk watch. We also birded some of the woodland trails.
Broad-wing Hawk migration is petering out, but Turkey Vulture and
Sharp-shinned Hawk numbers were very good. Highlights of the day included 3
Merlins, a Peregrine, an Osprey, a Blue-headed Vireo, a Brown Creeper,
Winter Wrens (heard), both Kinglets, Red-breasted Nuthatches, White-throated
Sparrows, and a large stream of Franklin's Gulls that appeared just as the
last Iowa City contingent was loading up to leave.

Below are numbers for the raptors (which differ from Mark's numbers because
mine don't include the raptors counted while the Iowa City group was in the
