I read the statement no less than 8 times and I hope I understand it, if not my sincere apologies up front.

Hobbs states that after many years, old female YBSAs end up with red throats similar to the throats of male RNSAs. I hope he sends us a reference from the Auk or equivalent journal.

If Juncos cannot be split then sapsuckers shouldn't either.
