Hello Phoebe Fans,
Black Phoebe is considered a rarity anywhere east of the Cascades away from Klamath County. A Black Phoebe was first discovered and documented at Page Springs Campground on September 16 and observed by many at the Oregon Birding Association meeting. It is quite possible (likely) that the bird being reported there now is the same bird discovered 2 weeks ago.
Another Black Phoebe was found at the Pelton Dam overlook in Jefferson County by OBA members returning from the OBA meeting.
Although a rarity at this time, its range seems to be expanding, and it may be one of those species that will be a regular visitor to Malheur a decade from now.
