Subject: [CT Birds] Bald Eagle vrs. Great Blue Heron- Ansonia Greenway
About 40 Ring-billed gulls and 2 Great blue Herond were calmly sitting in the water just down from the Railway bridge on the Naugatuck river, Ansonia side of the Division Street Bridge this morning about 11:15. One of the GBH grabbed an eel about 2 feet long and began to maul it. Out of nowhere , a Full Adult Bald Eagle appeared and then the ruckus began. Both the Eagle and the Heron were standing in the shallow water. The winner was the EEL. It got away while the other two were fighting over it. I have never seen a Great BlueHeron stand up to an Eagle like this before.
